About the Artist
Rosemary Carruthers IEA studied at Canterbury and Bideford Colleges of Art. She taught GCE ‘O’ level and recreational art. Her paintings were first exhibited in the West country in the early 1970’s. She has had work accepted by the Royal Academy and New English Art Club. She has exhibited widely in England and several works are held in private collections abroad.
She is now retired from teaching, has studios in Norfolk and Suffolk and is a full member of the Institute of East Anglian Artists (IEA)
Rosemary says of her work:
‘I work in gouache, acrylic, oil, pastel and mixed media in a wide range of subjects. I derive great pleasure from incorporating animal and human figures into my work as they go about their daily work or play.
A fascination with both positive and negative shapes and how they relate in space plus a desire to explore surfaces and underlying textures are sometimes the inspiration; or it can come from a visual form, colour, music or poetry’
