Description

This piece by Nigel Skinner is part of a series of collagraph and mixed media works inspired by the North Norfolk landscape.  It is created using a three plate collagraph print with mixed media hand-finishing and over-painting.  Each piece in the series is unique.

The piece is presented in a deep off white mount with V-groove detail, framed in a contemporary flat brushed white moulding and glazed with Clarity glass, a non-glare picture glass that reduces reflections and gives clear, true colour viewing. It also blocks out 70% UV light which is damaging to pictures.

Artist’s Statement

The underlying theme within my work is the notion of transformation or alchemy. I combine elements of the physical world with ideas relating to our collective myths and beliefs. Drawing on sources such as religion, philosophy, literature, art and that which is described as ancient wisdom or enlightenment. My work is predominantly created from salvaged and recycled materials. Earth, dust and gathered fragments are included as I attempt to achieve a greater understanding of humankind’s engagement with the world we inhabit. This work also alludes to a contemporary Norfolk landscape and our spiritual and artistic place within it.
