Our mixed summer exhibition is now open until the end of September and featuring new and recent work from many local artists and makers. Joining us for the first time this summer is local painter Steven Levitt, showing a number of mixed media contemporary paintings inspired by Norfolk’s landscape and coastline. He is showing alongside gallery regulars including Rachel Thomas, Nigel Skinner, Kate Heiss and Mary Blue.
Steven Levitt
For the first time, we are delighted to welcome mixed media artist Steven Levitt who works from his studio in Sheringham. For thirty three years he ran a hair and beauty business based in Ealing Broadway, but also with salons in Soho and Pinner. From a young age art was always a passion, but running a business left little time to paint. He was lucky to be able to use photography as a substitute.
Twenty six years ago, he moved to North Norfolk with his wife and two young sons. This meant travelling back and forward from Ealing to Norfolk. However five years ago he was able to sell his business. The very next day he started to paint, and indeed virtually every day since from his studio in Sheringham.
He has had five years to find his unique style. For Steven it is not about realism, but more importantly a sense of feeling, whether it is capturing the changing moods of the Saltmarsh, or some of Norfolk’s beautiful beaches. It is important to him that when you look at one of his paintings you will always see something new. Mark making, mixed media and collage are all used to try and achieve this.
